Healing through dance and movement has ancient roots in different cultures, from Native American healing dances to ancient Greek practices. The formal establishment of dance as a therapeutic approach occurred in the 1950s. Over the decades, many blogs and scientific manuscripts about dance therapy have been published. For example, Cruz and Sabers in 1998 published an article entitled “Dance/movement therapy is more effective than previously reported”. In this paper, the authors indicated that dance therapy is quite comparable to other psychotherapeutic and medical treatment modalities. By 2016, Cruz published a review article entitled “Dance/movement therapy and developments in empirical research: the first 50 years”. She indicated (quote) “Dance/movement therapists do face challenges of accountability in the systems in which they practice, but they have mounting sources of evidence to support what they do…..”.
I have listed easy-to-read blogs and news about dance therapy for autism and other illness. These blogs and news cover a range of topics, from the latest research and personal experiences. I will keep updating this list.
